TWO CANDIDATES TO SUCCEED LAGARDE
Spain and the Netherlands have officially presented their candidates to head the European Central Bank, following the early departure of Christine Lagarde, scheduled for February 7, 2027. They are Pablo Hernández de Cos of Spain, former governor of the Bank of Spain and current director general of the Bank for International Settlements, and Klaas Knot of the Netherlands, former president of the central bank of the Netherlands. Eurozone finance ministers will examine the two candidacies on November 9, before a final decision by European leaders. The future president will notably have to address inflationary pressures and economic uncertainties in Europe.
