The EU strengthens controls on infant formula.
The European Union is tightening its health regulations following contamination of infant formula with cereulide, a bacterial toxin that can cause severe vomiting in infants. The 27 member states have approved the establishment of permanent safety thresholds for infant formula, whether powdered or liquid. This decision follows a wave of recalls, notably affecting Nestlé, Danone, and Lactalis, between December 2025 and April 2026. The new standards will strengthen controls by manufacturers and health authorities to better protect babies.
